The dawn of 2024 brings forth the latest Pinterest Predicts report, where the image-centric social media platform peers into the future to unveil the trends expected to dominate its platform and capture consumer interests in the coming year.
The overarching theme, “Make it Big,” takes center stage, as Pinterest predicts Gen Z’s inclination toward impactful accessories and jewelry as a means of self-expression. The report, for the first time ever, allows users to shop for statement rings and sculptural jewelry directly.
Jenna Waller, Head of Fashion at Pinterest UK, shares insights on the platform’s findings, stating, “For 2024, we expect a year filled with intricately shaped statement necklaces, bold earring pairings, and oversized sculptural rings. Moving away from all things gold, silver is set to steal back center stage this year as bold chrome and cool tones take off. With Beyonce and Bella Hadid paving the way as the leading ladies in statement jewelry, bigger really is better in 2024.”
Big, Silver, and Opulent: Under the “Make it Big” trend, Pinterest anticipates Gen Z’s desire for “bigger, bolder, and puffier” styles in the upcoming year. The surge in searches for chunky hoops (up 45 percent) and sculptural jewelry (up 75 percent) aligns with the increased interest in fluffy hair aesthetics. The “Hot Metals” trend emphasizes the rising popularity of cool silver tones and chrome materials, marked by a shift from neutrals to something “more hardcore.” Layered silver necklaces and metal corsets, each experiencing a 50 and 35 percent increase in searches, respectively, play pivotal roles in this trend.
Bow Stacking: The “Bow Stacking” trend reflects Gen Z’s heightened interest in incorporating large or small bows into their outfits, shoes, hair, and jewelry. An overall uptick in bow-related searches, such as “Bow outfit” and “Bow necklace,” reinforces this trend.
Retro Leads the Way: Pinterest envisions a resurgence of retro and vintage themes, with select bygone eras making a comeback in 2024. The “Eclectic Grandpa” concept anticipates the embrace of “grandpa-core” by both Gen Z and Boomers, infusing eccentric and expressive elements into their wardrobes. Retro streetwear is expected to gain popularity, supported by increased searches for terms like “Grandpa core,” “Grandpa style,” and “Retro streetwear.”
In the wedding category, “Groovy Nuptials” emerge as a core trend, with 70s-inspired weddings making a serious comeback. Search terms like “Retro wedding theme,” “Groovy bachelorette party,” and “Groovy wedding” witness a rising interest.
Jazz Revival: Pinterest’s entertainment section predicts a “Jazz Revival,” where Millennials and Gen Z develop a renewed interest in the music genre. The rise in popularity of terms like “Jazz aesthetic clothing,” “Jazz-bar outfit,” and “Jazz-club outfit” underscores this definitive trend.
